Love a good fest

Hey ya'll. I will jetsetting to eastern Washington this weekend (whooo!) but I found something worth checking out this weekend.

I know you've heard of Georgetown. Some may have even been there, but for us cool kids its a must.

Starting at 6 pm tomorrow June 25th is the Georgetown Music Fest. The festival carries on into Saturday with bands on 3 stages, fun, food and of course a beer garden. Guess what, it's FREE!

Busted!

The NFL is really like college football colliding with WWF. It's got game, fans, production value and there's always a dash of drama.

I love the Seahawks. It's my team in more ways the one so obviously when there is big news I hear about it.

It is my priviledge to share with you the funniest NFL player news I've ever heard.

The Seahawks' hyped rookie wide receiver Golden Tate from Notre Dame had a run in with the law last weekend. Tate was issued a trespassing warning for busting into the Top Pot Donuts in Bellevue at 3 amafter it had closed. This donut facility happens to be in his apartment building and he with his friend had a case of the drunken munchies. Who can resist the maple bars!

While Top Pot could press further charges such as pulling a Homer Simpson, they didn't. As far what his new NFL coach thinks, this is what he had to say:

The World's Game

It's that time. Every 4 years something magical happens around the world. It's a time where 32 country teams come together to rage in the same language. I'm referring to the World Cup!

This is the world's game (Soccer, Futbol, etc.) where all the best players play for their country. This is not the Olympics. This is FIFA. 208 member associations and 32 make it to the World Cup. Check out their website for everything you need to know about Team USA, Ronaldo (HOT!), schedules, etc.

Team USA plays England June 12! That, my friends, is a Saturday mornng. Rock n Roll! This means we don't have to watch our first game at 3 am in the dark on Wed. Instead, we can day drink with our friends and send all of our good juju to South Africa.

If you're in Fremont, George & the Dragon will surely be crackin. Spitfire is also a good stop downtown. All Nations Sports Bar will be a good spot up North.

Duuuuude. It's about to be a huge weekend (Sasquatch, Folklife, 3 day weekend!) and I am finding myself in such desperate need of new great music. The greatest thing is I'm open. Play on player.... Try me.

So what are you going to be listening to on your loooooong Memorial Day weekend? Not sure? Check out some new albums, bands and tracks....

Numero Uno - Sleigh Bells. They are the rock you're socks off kind of band. I dig that. My fave track "Tell 'em".

A Perfect Union

Me and my fiance! Yes but no. He's rad but I'm referring to is The Boxer Rebellion's newest album. Union. I love it.

The first track I heard was Flashing Red Light Means Go. I listened to it several times in a row, thanks to Harm's What's Next show. This song worked for me so I checked out the album and I'm seriously diggin it.

Friday Funday

Whew! You've made it to Friday. Congratulations on your week. I, for one, am a little pooped and with a busy weekend ahead I have to maximize my Friday.

How you ask?

Well, let me tell you a little story. HAPPY HOUR. 'nuff said right? A little snack and little cocktail and a lot of blowing off the work week. Being that I'm a downtown Seattle by day lady, my new fave spot for HH is Urbane.

DELISH menu for super cheap. My favorites are the herb fries, Wagyu sliders and mac n' cheese

I get it... But How? Why?

Do you ever find yourself asking, " yes, but why?" What about, "How does Witchcraft work?" "How do Tourette's work?"

Well, I'm the most curious person I know and I seriously dig the Stuff You Should Know Podcast.
These two smart funny guys (Chuck & Josh) do some research along with the website How Stuff Works and then do twenty to forty minute entertaining and educational podcasts about a broad spectrum of topics. I love it. Castles, McDonalds, Earthquakes.

Fun Fact: Chuck and Josh bonded over Hunter S. Thompson, Fight or Flight response and dive bars.

They're great to listen to in transit, while doing mindless work or just for a break. I often find myself cracking up but stoked I'm learning at the same time. Here's their blog. It's full of juicy great info.

You can find them on Itunes as well. Both the website (uber informative) and the podcast (learning is funny) are awesome. Check it out! You'll be able to spew new convo topics, sound really smart on that blind date and continue your education for FREE!

So.... Have you ever heard of KNDD? How about The End? 107.7? Ok. Nirvana.

One my most favorite things about 107.7 is Harms. Remember going to see Greenday at the Tacoma Dome when you were wee? I do. Remember the guys and gals handing out free stuff and stickers? That was Harms back in '98. Over ten years later, he's still with our true love THE end. One of Seattle's grooviest DJ's, he's all about sharing what is shakin in Seattle and in the music scene. Easy to listen to, funny and killer taste in music (Oh how I long for his iPod). Seriously.

If you are unaware, Harms is the man. Go experience my favorite Harms moments by checking out What's Next? Sundays at 7 pm or listen online. Dis ez good shiz my friends.

Seattle's New Faces

Hello strangers! Where in the heck have I been?! Well, everywhere. At work, on the web trying to find a place to get hitched, hangin at Qwest with some Sea Gals and sometimes at home recovering from all that Seattle has to offer.

First off, I mentioned I hung out with the 2010 Sea Gals. Wow. Pretty fierce little ladies. Hope they're great this year. Check the Gals out on Facebook.

Secondly, if you haven't checked out Seattle's Restaurant Week DO IT! I went to Crow last week and it was delish. Guess how much it cost me...$25 for some solid soup, a giant chicken wrapped in prosciutto and some mango sorbet. Yea. it was awesome. Take advantage if you can. My gal pal and I sat at the Chef's table.

Last but not least, Earth Day. It happened and it was the 40th Anniversary. But just because Earth Day is over, it doesn't mean we can't continue to seek ways to help ourselves and our communities to be green. Here's on my favorite easy ways to be green. USE YOUR MICROWAVE! According to one my fave sites, Greenissexy.org, microwaves use half the energy of your stove or oven. Sweet!

The band that is....

One my favorite bands is coming to Seattle to perform at Neumo's tomorrow night. Rogue Wave just released their fourth album Permalight on March 2, 2010. It's upbeat and beautiful. Formerly a Sub Pop band, RW is now with Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records. Check it out....

Pretty cool! Listen to Asleep at Heaven's Gate (3rd Album). It pretty much changed my life.

If you like what you hear and see, buy tix for tomorrow's show. I have no doubt it will be awesome. Please enjoy it for me as I will be involved in another kick-ass event tomorrow evening.... my engagement party!

Got Waste?

I'm on pins and needles waiting to hear what is happening with King & Snohomish county trash. Weird I know. I don't love trash, but I love my home and community. Our dear Emerald city could get stinky and fast.

Here's the quick and dirty. The Waste Management folks (the loud people in the morning that collect our piles o'garbage) are supposedly striking today since their contract expired at the end of the night last night. Hello, Union strike. The Teamsters brought in a federal moderator to help all parties agree on a new contract but nothing has come through the pipeline yet.

Will our steets be piling up with trash? Possibly but as with any strike, there are also strike breakers and temporary replacements. Seattle Times and Craiglist among others ran ads for temporary employment during the strike to which the spokesman for Teamsters replied, "Waste Management would rather exploit the local labor market by offering temporary jobs for strikebreakers than support and protect their trained work force." Awkward.

Just when we thought we were getting more compost bins. Jeez.

Upside of all this...... try to be mindful of your waste today. The Cedar Hills Regional Landfill receives nearly 1 million tons of solid waste a year according to King County Gov. Think about what you can recycle and what's sort of trash contributor you are in a mere day.

It's old. No, it's new. Well, it's new to me. The Diller Room.

The Diller Room is a thirsty Joe's reinvention of The Diller Hotel. This swanky place was touted as Seattle's first luxury hotel. Yea, in the olden days. 1898. Now, the Diller Room is a modern day cocktail lounge. It's reinvented. Recycled. Reinvigorated. Brought back to the future for TGIG and all her friends to check out for a libation or two. This place actually used to be a "speakeasy" when boozing was illegal. Now it hosts a killer happy hour menu.

The Stranger spoke of the decor, "the place plainly does not care whether it's fashionable or not, aspiring merely to be right." I dig that.

I ain't no fool

Hey! Guess what?! I'm pregnant! APRIL FOOLS!!!

What I am about to tell you is no joke.

The Lake Union fireworks show does not have a sponsor this year and thus... many traditions will be lost. While this doesn't affect everyone, all the residents and friends attending the Gasworks party to watch all the $$ blow up in beautiful glory around 10 pm will have to find a less stunning venue for the 4th in Seattle in 2010. We've lost the Elliot Bay show and now we could lose the Lake Union show too. Saaaaad!!! Poor us. Poor Seattle. This has to be a joke!

One Reel, the folks who put on events like Bumbershoot, need a sponsor to fund the event. After WaMu lost its identity to JPMorgan Chase & Co., the new guys sponsored 2009 but figured One Reel could find a new dedicated Northwest sponsor. I mean, One Reel has been hosting this event for 21 friggin years. Only time will tell.....

It's Raining Men!

Ok. Not quite. But it is raining here in Seattle. My philosophy is that I don't need an umbrella because they're ugly and Seattlites don't reeeeallly carry them. What one does need are rainboots! Yes. Why not a bumbershoot? Because an umbrella will not keep your tootsies dry in a puddle. Aaaand, you can make a personal statement with a pattern or color.

Seattle Rocks

Friday! Yesss! What are you doing tonight? Don't say recovering from the UW loss. Get over it. We went to the Sweet 16 and that was AWESOME. What is your Friday night delight?

I'm going to see the Seattle Rock Orchestra at the Moore Theater and I'm puuuumped. If you didn't hear about SRO's performance with Exohxo at the Fremont Abbey last fall, then you missed out. Here's the Stranger's recap on the amazing show. They did a tribute to Arcade Fire, performing the band's debut album Funeral. This show blew me and a hundred other Seattlites away. Not only do I love that album (it's undeniably amazing) but I love me a live orchestra. Here's a peek at one of my fave tracks. Wake Up.

Tonight, SRO is paying tribute to none other than David Bowie. Whooo! Yea! Young American Young AMerican. Ok. But seriously, this group packed the Fremont Abbey so the group has moved to the Moore Theater right in downtown Seattle. It's going to be radicool and you should absolutely try to come if you can. I really believe this show won't disappoint. Find event info and buy tix here.

So I'm getting hitched! Yeehaw! Sooooo many things to think about. Ahhh!! (think Home Alone face)

While the options seem endless and expensive, there is one thing that I can count on. My friends! It just so happens that a couple of my friends are photographers and we're uber excited for the engagement shoot! It's going to be engaging to say the least so stay tuned for that...1...2....3.... cheeeeese!

Meet Sally & Jeff Honeycutt! Two of the finest people I've met in this life. Not only are they beautiful and talented, they are a blast and half to be around. They do a lot of wedding photography and portraiture but get them talking and you'll find that their interests and passions go far beyond the big day. An apple a day...

Holy Healthcare people! What a Sunday night eh? I'm not going to go too far into this because you can find a recap on the world wide interweb without looking very far but wow...

What I do want to say is that regardless of major healthcare reform in our time (gobama. I said it.), I really feel as though we should all try to be healthier and spend less time in hospitals if we can help it. Spend less, consume less and use less energy. It's all green in my book.

There's a way that can work for you! Get up! Right now! Go..... Wait, no not yet. Listen....I have one friend that can dominate multiple apples a day for weeks (Kim. ahem.) Sooo, because I like apples and Kim is fitter than a fiddle I have been trying this whole apple a day thing. The goal? To see if I could can cut back on the crack, I mean crap that starts with a "c" (ie. candy, cookies, chocolate) one can find in an office in the afternoon. It actually works most days. On some fateful afternoons, I have an Americano and an apple. Hey, I like to call this compromise...

So agree with me, we can all just start to think of things that are healthier and try one here and there. So grab some veggies and vow to walk outside for a bit every single day the sun shines in this beautiful city. Doooo eeet! Get out there and live on the (not always opposing) wild and healthy side.
